coin values, 2000 dollar mule, decimal investment coin

Have you found or purchased an Australian 2000 Dollar / Ten Cents Mule and want an indication of what it 's currently worth? DOLLARMULE.com.au will endeavour to regularly update this page with recent sales results from online and from dealers / auctions. Current sales give us a reflection of today's market value, they say nothing of the potential of enormous worth in years to come. The 1930 penny was traded for Threepence soon after it's discovery. The $1 Mule commanded at least 350 times it's face value upon discovery!

You don't see these everyday.

January 2011: Across the festive season a coin in Fine makes $415.01. Not bad considering that 1925 pennies are hard up going anywhere near lower grade guide prices. Search 1925 & 1946 pennies - they are everywhere! There can now be no doubt that the 2000 mule coin was "released in a minute number" - how many were captured before release - we will probably never know unless Staff can be contacted who were responsible during production.
VF coins are advertised in $600's - be assured in 25 years that will be an extreme BARGAIN.- find one NOW!

As of Feb 2010 Dollarmule will only report on Significant sales. With the usual sales mostly only Fine - it has been interesting to watch the market over a year but helps little for a buyer wanting a clear price indicaton - so when a true F, VF, EF etc is sold (from a reputable source) - you'll see it here - stay tuned...

  • March 2010 - A mule is up for sale for $6000 (or make an offer) on eBay. It's been graded MS63 by an American service. It's joined by several others all over $1500 that seem to be in EF or better.
  • April - aUNC at $5500 on eBay.
  • At least 5 Mules for sale all EF+ or better 11/4/10 on eBay. Prices from $1500 - 5500. Never seen so many high grade examples - time for a bargain as older collectors offload?
  • The MS63 is reported sold on a coin forum by the seller for $4000. Seller gave honest opinion about coin being realistically a 58 so a significant sale. Seller quoted: "Lesson for the day. PUBLIC awareness of an investment coin will push the price up far quicker than anything else"

May 2010, Some Fine examples sold in the 400's + 500's on eBay.

July 2010 - Popular coin dealers International Numismatics list a mule in gVF for $695 in their publication "Money Matters".

Late January 2012 - low VF's making 500's, nothing "real" under $650 - - very few sales - because their are very few coins available.

2010 August / September: There is very little on offer on eBay / Dealers / other markets. Better Fines are seeing $500 and we seem to be in limbo as the market finally finds a drought of those not willing to sell. Finding a 2000 mule seems near impossible now with so very few (maybe 1-10) being documented as found in the last 4 years. The top end of the market is starting to tighten - gains are still to be had as with all rare Australian decimal coins.

September 4th - Downies graded (as claimed by seller) EF sells for $1226-25 online.

October 2010 - NGC graded XF45 sold for $960 online.

December 2010: There have been about 6 coins of genuine aUNC condition available amongst dealers, mostly online coin sellers - all are bargains - how many times have we heard the "what if's" - buy these prime examples if you have the inclination or spare dollars! Some Fine (F) examples have surfaced and sell reliably in the mid $400's. VF is seeing solid 600's now and well...if you are holding a Mule and want it to grow - promote it,  keep spreading the word - ask around friends and co-workers - it is amazing to be able to tell them about the $1 coin worth a minimum of $400 / the lucky could score thousands...the Australian general public remains in the dark. Tell them about the $1 Mule and it becomes a Juggernaut in your pocket.

FEB 2011 - SHOCK, HORROR! - AU 50 as graded by NGC and available online for well over $3000- an obvious example of U.S grading upon our Decimal coins, it was obviously only Aust VF - at a total stretch -aEF. Buyer beware of shonk sellers taking advantage of the disparity between the American and Australian grading systems...you will find that the respected, reliable sellers make buyers well aware of the difference!

MARCH - 2011,  A solid VF Mule makes a solid $610.50 on eBay.
A few Fine coins have been sold online - some advertised as VF -  mid to late $400's here.

APRIL - 2011, Coin advertised as "High Grade" by seller - bit of a stretch but was a solid example and sold for $769 online. Quality Mules can still be found $2000 - $5000 on eBay et al. The big news has been the rise and fall of Silver, many previously snubbed silver issues have finally shown gains. You can find out more on the Investment page.

May 2011 2000 Incused 50c UNC, makes $380's on eBay.

Late June 11' - A solid VF makes 530's. VERY SLOW with very few quality mules on offer. Gold is up - got an opinion?

July 11' - Coin described by seller as "xcond" - makes $1125 online. Buyer got a bargain - seller described coin as from a deceased estate... with no grade stated it went cheaply.

Late July 11' - PCGS AU50 (Aust gVF-aEF) makes $810 online. See this coin on the coin grading page.

Late July 2011 - Many professionally graded coins ( PCGS. NGC etc) selling on eBay. They generally reflect McDonalds with more realistic prices being achieved (considering rarity - who cares it was only produced in 2000, it rivals the vast majority of Pre Decimal coin rarities... an online auction made $510 for a heavily bagged coin (strangely had little wear) - hence a price better than Fine. Lovely to see this coin finally gaining a small portion of the recognition such a rare coin deserves. With modern technology helping to avoid mistakes - this is still the most glaring decimal RAM error, appreciated by few ( because the majority are ignorant through the lack of publicity) so we'll see where we are in the next 10 years...stay tuned.

August 2011 - NGC graded AU50 Mule makes $990.

Late August 2011 - Another slabbed coin PCGS AU 50 makes $760 online.

September 2011 - where are all the Mules? Tucked away no doubt. Some slabs still on offer on eBay - the odd VF sold . Dealers will have examples available - still outstanding value for a decimal coin of this rarity. Seen one in your change lately?

November 2011 - Buyer beware as Fine examples are being well overstated on eBay. This week (Sun 20th on ) will see sales of at least three coins - odd to see so many in the one week when examples have been scarce of late- all in Fine at best - one being described by the seller as EF "High Grade" - it so obviously would only grade Fine - RIP OFF.

also beware of shonks describing off centre die strikes on any denomination as a rare mule - most find these auctions entertaining but realistically are based on lies and aimed at ripping off new or amateur decimal investors.

December 2011 - The chance still exists to cherry pick a good VF dollar mule online for mid $500's - however choose wisely (not that there is much choice).... alternatively learn to compare US and Aust grading and find a bargain slab. Still backed by the big boys as a truly bargain "sleeper". Interesting to note the condition of some of the RAM dollar examples after 10 - 15 years - all beat up and looking really tired - any still out there in the wild will be rapidly depreciating. All the best for 2012.

Jan 2012 - Solid Vf - maybe a tad better - sells at $606 online.

The migration of mules from quick buck makers to Investors is inevitable.
